6pm Monday 20 January 2025, Uralla Court House
ZNET and Uralla Shire Council are pleased to share with the community the recent report on silt levels and current water storage capacity of Kentucky Creek Dam.
During 2024, ZNET organised a UNSW Honors student, Jarvis Mumford-Day, to survey the dam. Jarvis spent a week crisscrossing the dam with a sonar device to map the bottom of the dam and a probe to measure the thickness of the silt.
The results from the survey are crucial so that we know how much water the dam now holds. This information will support the assessment of how much more water is needed to ensure a secure supply for the town in the next drought.
Uralla Shire Council will incorporate this information into the Integrated Water Cycle Management strategy being developed in 2025 as well as the Drought Management Plan for the Shire.
Jarvis will be in Uralla on 20 January 2025 to talk to the Council Executive and water management staff and afterwards will give a public presentation of the survey results. The evening event is open everyone in our community and all are welcome – so come along and let’s start talking about water again!
The evening session is at 6pm at the Uralla Court House on Hill Street. Light refreshments will be provided.
