Raising Asbestos Awareness

Was your home built before 1990? It may contain asbestos. Residents who conduct their own renovations may accidentally come into contact with asbestos. Asbestos-related diseases cause approximately 4,000 Australian deaths each year.

To raise awareness of the risks and assist with safe management or removal, Northern Inland Regional Waste has made available a limited number of free household testing kits.

Residents and ratepayers can drop into Council's Customer Service Centre on Salisbury St, Uralla to pick up a kit while stocks last.

Asbestos testing can also be organised through any NATA-accredited laboratory.
