Uralla Shire Council Adopts Annual Report 2019-2020
Published on 18 December 2020
Council’s Annual Report reflects on the progress and achievements made during the 2019-20 financial year.
The Annual Report is prepared in accordance with the NSW Local Government Act 1993 and the Local Government (General) Regulation 2005. The report also contains Council’s audited Annual Financial Statements for 2019-2020 and reports from the Audit Office of NSW.
The report, which is required to be submitted to the Minister for Local Government by 30 December this year, also highlights the achievements and milestones of the past financial year.
Among Council’s achievements include the completion of numerous upgrades to parks and recreational facilities throughout the Shire funded by the State Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund and Drought Communities Extension Programme.
The report highlights Council’s continued advocacy to State and Federal Governments, grant funding secured by Council across the organisation, and cooperation with partners in the region. Council also examined its operating finances in the review and revision of the 10-year Long Term Financial Plan, and continues to develop strategies to achieve a financially sustainable Shire.
Other significant achievements include the completion of filter repairs and upgrade works at the Uralla Water Treatment Plant, and securing of additional funding and the finalisation of the tender process for the Uralla Visitor Information Centre improvement project to enhance tourism in the Uralla Shire and benefit the local economy.
Uralla Shire Mayor, Cr Michael Pearce thanked his fellow Councillors and Council staff for their work and dedication over the past year.
“I’m incredibly proud of what Council and the organisation have achieved over the last year.”
“Over the next year, Council will continue to work hard to best serve the Uralla Shire community.”
“Working and collaborating together, we continue on our trajectory to remain an active, prosperous, welcoming and environmentally aware Shire,” Mayor Pearce said.
Uralla Shire Council’s General Manager Kate Jessep said, “Council delivered a record-equalling capital works program with a near record level of grant funding despite a year of extenuating circumstances driven by the drought conditions and exacerbated by the pandemic.”
“Council’s long term financial sustainability remains the priority focus and, despite grant funding, and ongoing reviews of service efficiency, performance and income remain critical.”
“As part of this ongoing process, the review commenced by Council during 2019/20 on waste services, water and sewer funds services and related infrastructure is continuing, with further community engagement to occur in 2021 on the financial sustainability of these services,” Ms Jessep said.
Council adopted its Annual Report 2019-2020 at its Ordinary Meeting held 24 November 2020.
