Community information session for Uralla’s $2 million parks project

Uralla Shire Council will host a public information session next Thursday evening to inform residents and gather their feedback on suggested upgrades to Pioneer Park and The Glen/Rotary Park Precinct.

“In the first stage of the consultation, community members suggested a range of ideas which were gathered and given to the designers in a detailed brief,” said Mayor Robert Bell.

“Now it’s time for the community to take a look at the concept designs and tell us what they think, so that Council can move forward and start making the improvements that people would like to see,’” he said.  

An analysis report and concept designs prepared by consultants Civille include improvements to amenities along with creating ‘destination features’ such as expanding the Constellations of the South feature and a model boating lake for the Glen, and a Fibonacci sequence theme for Pioneer Park, all ideas which were generated by the community. 

The designs can be viewed on signage that has been erected at the park entrances, in the report which is available on Council’s website at Uralla.nsw.gov.au/community/consultation, as well as at the information session itself.

Staff from Civille will conduct the information session which will be held at the Uralla Community Centre on Hill St (behind the Police Station and Old Court House) between 5.30 – 6.30pm on Thursday 27 January 2022. Bookings are required.

The upgrades have been made possible due to a $2 million grant through the Public Spaces Legacy Program. The Program was developed by the NSW Government to create a legacy of green and accessible public spaces.

“Once we determined Uralla Shire was eligible for this grant, Council resolved to focus on the two main parks that bookend the township to attract community members and visitors to enjoy both parks and everything in between,” said General Manager Kate Jessep.

“We’re asking residents how would you like to see the parks looking? What activities would you use the space for? What would make it a place that you’d be proud to take family and friends when they come to visit?” Ms Jessep said. 

The proposed upgrades aim to deliver the community’s goals of creating high-quality recreation areas and attractive open spaces, promoting tourism, and preserving and protecting the Uralla Shire’s natural environment.
