Quick Tips
Conserve Water at Home
- Fix leaky taps. A slowly dripping tap can waste thousands of litres of water per year.
- Only use dishwashers or washing appliances with a full load to optimise water usage.
- Keep a jug of tap water in the fridge for drinking in the summer months: that way you don't have to run the tap until the water runs cold.
- Turn off the tap whilst brushing teeth.
- Limit the length of your shower - use a shower timer for a 3 minute shower and turn off the water to lather up.
- Use a container when washing fruit and vegetables in the sink.

Conserve Water in the Garden
- Plant a waterwise garden incorporating native plants or plants with low water requirements.
- Use mulch or compost in the garden to retain moisture in the soil.
- Avoid over-watering your lawn. You can encourage your grass to grow deeper roots by using less water.
- Install a water collection tank to collect roof run off.
- Collect the 'warm-up' water in a bucket from your shower and use to water your garden or running the washing machine.
Conserve Water at School
