Pesticide Use Program 2020-21 Season
Herbicide Use
Purpose: Control of noxious and environmental weeds; roadside maintenance program; maintenance of public parks and reserves
The following program lists situations in which Council plans to use more than 20 litres of diluted herbicide, or smaller quantities of herbicides not commonly available for use in home gardens. Notices will be placed on site only where required by the Notification Plan of the New England Tableland Councils or when warning regarding re-entry or use of the site is warranted. Other herbicides may be used on Council public reserves only with notification as provided for by the Pesticide Notification Plan 2020-21 which is available through websites of this Council or New England Weeds Authority.

Notes: areas treated with ‘Taskforce’ by spot spray application are not to be grazed or cut for stock food for at least 14 days after application. Any stock grazed in treated areas after this period should then graze on other clean feed for 14 days before slaughter or milking for human consumption. This herbicide contains flupropanate. It may be used in consultation with stock grazing managers once per year in a few locations to control specific susceptible grasses while minimising damage to other desirable grasses and herbs. Notices will be erected on the sites where it is used.
Environmental Weeds: In bushland areas of conservation value all non-native plants can be environmental weeds; species that tend to invade healthy bushland are of particular concern along with species that may compete significantly against native species for space, moisture light or nutrients. In Council-managed bushland and wetland sites both declared noxious weeds and environmental weeds may be treated as part of the bushland regeneration program. Small patches of invasive species such as Coolatai and African Love Grasses in or near significant areas with diverse native groundcover will be one focus of the program. Species such as Broom, Privet, Cotoneaster, Firethorn and Hawthorn may be treated as part of the roadside maintenance program by Council or New England Weeds Authority. These plants produce prolific amounts of long-lived seeds or small berries that are spread by birds and foxes and if left unchecked have the potential to form dense thickets crowding out other desirable species.
