E-Waste
Computerbank New England recycles E-Waste at the Uralla Landfill and Recycling Centre.

  • Opening hours: 9.30am & 4.30pm Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Computerbank New England strips all types of E-Waste, including computers, televisions, microwaves and other types of electrical equipment.

Uralla Shire Council are members of Northern Inland Regional Waste – regional Councils working together to solve resource recycling.
http://www.nirw.org.au/

E-Waste from non-residents is no longer accepted at the Uralla Shire landfill facilities.

It is sad to see how much e-waste is produced in Uralla Shire. With all the fabulous efforts of Computerbank New England, there is still a substantial amount of E-waste that cannot be refurbished or recycled. E-waste that cannot be recycled is paid to be transported to another recycler, or is disposed of in landfill. More E-waste at our landfill means higher costs for Council and the ratepayer.

What is E-waste? E-waste is electronic waste, including computers, screens, printers, scanners, faxes, TVs, microwaves and all things electrical. Uralla Shire Council uses the services of the volunteer group Computerbank New England to strip and recycle as much of the E-waste as possible.

Why is there a cost on TV and CRT (large computer) screens? Approximately 60% of the material in a TV and CRT screen is not recyclable at the local facilities. Due to the increase in numbers of TV and CRT arriving at local landfills, Uralla Council is asking that its residents contribute to the cost of disposal of TVs and CRTs. If you think about how much a new TV costs, $10 is a small contribution to ensure that the old screen is stripped and parts recycled where possible and residual is disposed of responsibly.

To ensure that the Uralla Shire residents are not paying for the disposal of residual E-waste of non-residents, Uralla Shire no longer accepts E-waste outside of the Shire.

Clean Green Waste
Clean green waste may be dropped off to Uralla Recycling Centre and Bundarra at no charge.
Green Waste includes:

  • leaves
  • grass clippings
  • branches
  • hay
  • flowers
  • sawdust
  • woodchips
  • bark

Please remember to separate out any noxious weeds in your green waste. Do not put your green waste in your general waste bin.

Alternatives for Organic Waste

Composting and Worm Farming
Composting or worm farming organic materials at home, or using council collection services can:

  • reduce greenhouse gas emissions from landfill
  • reduced leachate production in landfills

The use of compost in gardening, landscaping, horticulture and in agriculture can:

  • reduce the amount of watering required
  • reduce the amount of synthetic fertilisers needed
  • improve the structure, fertility and health of soils
  • help to repair soils suffering from poor management

Worm Farms and Compost Bins in the Uralla Shire Council area
A fun way to reduce your waste is to feed your food scraps to a worm farm or combine your food and garden waste together and place them in a compost bin. Your food scraps and garden waste can be turned into great compost - for your garden and pot plants.
